What is Procrastination?

Procrastination can be defined as Deferment of Actions or tasks to a later time.

- We can say fundamentally Procrastination is the act of putting off essential task until a later time, most of the time non essential tasks are done in lieu of the more critical ones.
- Psychologists term such behavior as a mechanism for coping with the anxiety associated with starting and completing any task or decision.

- Being confident of our information, equipment and time limit ensures that the task is done on time.
- Making Realistic Expectations and Prioritizing on the tasks keeps us well focused on the goals.
- Motivation and Rewards to the self help us in accomplishing the tasks efficiently.

How to Motivate Yourself to Success

Now, reading the title would make you think "How CAN you motivate someone? That's just impossible!" and 'll be straight with you - I can't! Only you can motivate your own self. I'm only writing this to offer points you can consider to use in order to build up your motivation.

Belief

Before you carry out any task, you need to believe you CAN see it through and WILL do it to the best of your abilities. Usually, people don't believe in their selves because of past experiences of failures and trash talking from other people.

When you don't get what you want or what you expect, it's easy to just give up and start something else. And often, this is what most people do - including me, before I got fed up of it. Having to face failures is never easy. You can have ten guys beating you up - anything but failing all the time. To avoid failure, believe that you are not a failure, or a waste. Just think of failures as accidents and lessons to make your future better. Don't back down and just move forward.

Be reasonable, be realistic

For example, when you just cannot get an A, no matter how hard you've worked for the maths test. It's so easy to say "You know what? I'm just naturally dumb!" Believe me, if you were dumb, you wouldn't be able to read this article at all. In case you didn't notice, only highly educated people can read this.

When failure strikes, think of the possible reasons why it may be. Challenge yourself, question yourself of the possibilities - be critical on yourself. Denying faults will never help, it will only make the matter worse. So, be brave, stand up and admit your mistakes. Have you worked hard enough to deserve success? Have you missed any minor, important detail? Let failure be a lesson and instead of moaning about it, think of ways to overcome it and avoid it in the future.

Competition

Everyone likes to compete every now and then. Whether it's between siblings or friends, competition is always encouraging. It only gets bad when you let yourself be a bit 'too competitive'. When you compete, the drive to win is usually higher than the drive to succeed. Often times, people do succeed because of their competitive side. Either it's to compete with your past excellent records or take part in a race, competition is good as it encourages you to do better than you have in the past. Tell yourself "I'm going to win this thing!" and repeat it in your head until you completely believe in it. Just make sure you work as hard as you should. After all, what's the point of talk if there's no action, right?

Finding Motivation For Success

At times we can all feel that we have gotten ourselves into a rut, and it seems that we have completely lost all motivation.

Working from home alone it can be notoriously difficult to stay focused. But don't worry you are not alone in feeling this.

Below are some simple and easy to follow tips that may help you rediscover your motivation.

1) Define a goal. Often people have too many projects going on at any one time. This is a drain on energy and resources. Trying to do too many things at once is probably the most common mistake that people make. When trying to focus on more than one goal at a time it is easy to lose direction and motivation, so it is better to complete one task before moving on to the next.

2) When you choose a goal to work on it can be really helpful to write it down, or better still print it out in big bold letters and put it somewhere that you will see it often. Like above your desk or on the door of your refrigerator. It will be there as a constant reminder.

3) Tell people about your goal. Commit to it publicly, so even when you are not feeling particularly motivated you will feel the need to stick with it and not back down.

4) If your motivation starts to wane find inspiration from others. Read books, blogs and watch videos about success stories. Get excited about what ever goal you have set for yourself. This is a great way to regain your focus.

5) Think about your goal daily and think about it in a positive light. If you stay positive about it, it is much more likely to happen for you. Also realise that motivation is not constant thing, as with everything it comes and goes. Nobody feels mentally on top form all the time!

6) Most importantly remember you must stick with it. Nothing ever gets achieved by giving up. If you are having trouble with your motivation levels remember to start with small tasks and build up from there. Once you have a few small successes under your belt you will find that you feel much more positive about taking on bigger challenges.
